Strategies to live by.

LiveS
Eliminate the negative and accentuate the positive!
Perpetuate trust, love and encouragement!

Life is as much fun or as difficult as we make it. With an inspired Vision, sensible objectives, managed risks and a good strategy supported with quality decisions and growing competence, anything is possible. Each challenge keeps it interesting and our values and loved ones give it purpose and substance.
Strategies to live by typically include some overwhelming pearls of wisdom that may encapsulate personal and business goals, and utilise our networks in pursuit of some balance. Like a Mission that sets a purpose and direction, it can also define an underlying strategy on how to succeed.
Those that live the 80/20 rule, "The Parento Principle" for growth and profit may overlook many goals and objectives that can help instil substance, sustainability and the desired outcome without having to rationalize short comings or the consequences of poor decisions, or indecision.
Shared values at different levels of maturity may resonate in our work and lives to help us appreciate some of the strategies needed to evolve further (i.e. bias for action). We can explore the strategies behind some key values:-

  • Respect, Trust and confidence
  • Responsibility and Commitment
  • Equity, Inclusion and Diversity
  • Openness and opportunity
  • Accountability and transparency
  • Fairness and justice
  • Reputation

Create models that can generate results.

Generate
Agility, insight, discipline, values and focus above
complacency, deception and procrastination gets results !

The article " Building dynamic environments", (Freese, 2014) touched on the various elements and drivers needed to create nurturing environments and the momentum towards knowledge and competence. The underlying models to achieve immediate results and hit the ground running are explored further in this article, i.e. Business Intelligence, adopting innovations, and to pursue a greater potential via models that can generate results.
Models that generate results must inspire and drive innovation further with sustained growth and a level of maturity through agility, insight, discipline, values and focus. This is evident when innovation is infused with experience to manage risks, attain goals, and overcome new challenges with ease and without hesitation.
In the midst of relentless change comes the ability to manage complexity, turn risks into opportunities, pioneer solutions and successfully execute the plan that brings results to fruition. Such models can be identified in the following:

  • Break free from the confines of ancient and standard practices to evolve, automate and scale up.
  • Expand rather than consolidate enables a new potential.
  • Business Intelligence taken to a new level.
  • Explore and adopt frontiers destined to succeed.

Smarter Strategies for value, advantage and success

Sparks
Restore hope with passion, talent, action and purpose!
Believe in yourself, as your goals are closer than you think!

The greatest advantages come from crossing that threshold to adopt sound strategies, even if they may be widely used. The initial rewards can pave a path for further challenges and rewards by unlocking some fundamental secrets. Yet most may never consider better strategies, locked in their status quo, set outlooks or priorities clouded by their own dilemmas, that may never change until something rattles their cage to awaken a need or desire to do something better.
Smarter strategies can enable individuals or businesses out of any slump from working for wages to realize profits, growth, and new opportunities for a better future.
The biggest barriers are typically complacency that justifies current actions as strategies or a lack of confidence or drive to tackle bigger challenges. To evolve from this situation requires a fundamental shift in mindset that embodies the getting or wisdom, capabilities, foresight, and drive as depicted by the following:

  • Understand the game enough to consider better game plans.
  • Research into the unknown for better solutions.
  • Convert risks into opportunities.
  • Reap the benefits that a positive momentum can bring.
  • Plan your next great Strategy.

Hungry for innovation, inspiration, renewal or a better direction?

Sparks

Growth is built on realising opportunities, while innovation fuels the massive engines that drive economies !

Everyone has some level of hunger for innovation that can drive their own quest to evolve, adventure, solve or just to keep up with a constantly changing world. Businesses, industries and countries have made this hunger an art, by observing the structures that induce interest or inspire involvement. Each form of hunger can feed on each other from the quest for knowledge, wealth, necessity and growth to fulfilment in every form. This is evident in many places like the worlds Mega cities (e.g.NY), China's cities with an average age of 30, to technology hubs where businesses are built and can thrive on each other.
Seeking an advantage, opportunity, inspiration or the cutting edge is not enough, as those that really hunger for it don’t hold back to achieve it. Just to consider bigger challenges opens our minds to new possibilities, where the inconceivable is nurtured and defined. This contrast becomes evident by the imposed limitations from those trying to conceive broader opportunities without the mentorship or support from key skillsets or a wider network that can fill the gaps of knowledge and reduce potential risks.
The appeal to join the fast growing markets or to bring the best the world has to offer to each market must be incredible. This is to venture and take the next step to seize higher potential opportunities, like new leaps in social media, technologies that can reshape the world, to simple solutions that can fill the voids in many societies. To realise this potential takes a little more than a few champions trying to pioneer an idea. Obviously, there is a massive waste of missed opportunities, untapped potentials, waiting to be realised, e.g. Patents without a destiny, problems without solutions, challenges without a champion or just resources not meeting their potential. In the quest to evolve with innovation, some hurdles need to be mastered and overcome in the complexity of an ever changing landscape that only builds in momentum.
These could include:

  • Desperately seeking a solution against all odds.
  • Overcoming limitations – Strategies for every challenge
  • The best business cases (better ROI)
  • Gaining momentum
  • Beyond today's conventional system lie more opportunities to evolve.

New Year’s resolutions with a difference

Gift
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

My gift is last months "Dare to dream…" article for registered members, which is also free. Register now!
Your family’s quality of life may depend on this year's resolutions. Make the most of it!

Individuals like many companies face their proverbial blunt axe, making little progress to reach their potential, despite new resolutions or yearly attempts with innovative improvement plans. The bottom line may be a lack of confidence, drive, support, insight, capabilities or strategies to get the desired results. An awakening may also be needed, to light a fire that motivates and drives the dead towards a manageable game plan.
Typically, New Year’s resolutions include improved happiness, health, wealth and prosperity measures. In our awakening we need to come to terms with some harsh realities to sharpen our axe, by developing the essential skills and bridge our gaps to the unknown. As " The Evolution of Strategic Management" (Freese, 2013) highlights " Ignorance is no excuse", to unravel the many broken systems that governs our lives and consequently our destinies, if we let them.
Many of us are caught in one of life’s traps and need to wise up to take the appropriate measures, possibly with some help.
Which trap warrants a new year’s resolution with an action plan that can finally get the desired results?:

  • Addicted to some buzz that costs more than an arm and a leg, although it may not be obvious.
  • Wealth creation continues to take a back seat to a life of convenience and obscure directions.
  • Ill prepared for dementia or the many challenges that could await today's aging population.
  • Held in limbo, living life without purpose or direction while enduring all its tricks and traps.
  • That elusive challenge or efforts to improve seem to remain out of reach, as success is continually redefined.
  • Dare to dream of new opportunities, challenges and experiences that can help you evolve.

Dare to dream, set global visions, inspire and change the future.

Vision
United in a common vision can improve how we inspire, communicate,
collaborate and innovate together!
Justice for all is when we can achieve a universal justice!
Business success implies success for all markets, industries and the wider community!
A more compassionate society accepts responsibility for the environment,
Global governance and bridging differences with common Visions and goals!

With so many injustices, poor visions, broken systems and missed opportunities a global vision can make a significant difference. It will not only raise the potential to achieve much more, it will capture a wider network of support where each individual can contribute towards a better outcome while its dynamics helps it evolve.
Why wait for a tragedy to hit before realising that the current systems have so much more to evolve before they can be considered adequate, just or close to functionally useful. Most may still have limited accountability and are self-regulating while degenerating with degrading standards and a lack of interest to correct it before it gets worse.
Like many areas that struggle with poor visions, its evolution seems to follow one crisis after another while its future remains uncertain. Most organisations should be upgrading their visions to match how the future should unfold and broaden their scope and potential.
Some areas that not only need insightful visions but better models to evolve into the next century include:-

  • Justice
  • Governance
  • Business (Start-ups, SME, enterprises, non-profit…)
  • Industries, Markets and Countries.
  • Societies and individuals

Overcoming procrastination with improved focus, decision making, goal setting, and discipline

Procrastinate

Less lip-service, rationalisation or procrastination and more action gets the desired results!

Many may adopt a simple strategy in life to eliminate the negative and tackle inefficiencies to secure their accepted levels of productivity. But, this like many rationalised forms of decision making sets a compromise that will not find their true potential. With that mindset, they may never realise that they have been procrastinating when their definition only considers the extremes. Procrastination becomes evident, when success is measured by outcomes rather than the original goal. A typical sign is when meetings extend beyond 1 hour as best practices are not pursued or considered, i.e. focus in disarray, few aligned values, and little drive evident to meet new heights with innovation.
The blind leading the blind may be appropriate when no one knows anything better and aspirations are limited accordingly. To raise above this dilemma some insight is needed on their potential that can reinvigorate a positive direction, while adopting best practises that secure the appropriate focus, skill and drive to succeed with any challenge.
There are so many ways to procrastinate as some may identify with these examples:

  • Unresolved issues that dominate our subconscious to contribute to a loss of focus.
  • Lack of direction, drive, skills and/or discipline.
  • Ineffective stress relieving practices that become a distraction.
  • Poor time management practices.
  • Misplaced priorities, loyalties or conflicting objectives.
  • Too complacent to consider best practices or useful innovations.
  • Unaware of your potential, and that of your team and organisation.
  • Ill prepared, ready to waste time unnecessarily.
  • Caught in one of life's redundant processes, just marking time.
  • Wasting time arguing, over promoting, or avoiding (e.g.lip-service).

Create bargaining positions to negotiate better conditions, opportunities and prospects

Bargain

Make the most of today, leverage your advantages with research,
analysis, insights, smart tactics and strategies!
The decisions you make today can impact the rest of your life!

There are so many contracts or propositions with poor conditions and inbuilt disadvantages that set a challenge to explore and create better bargaining positions. Most proposals remain unchallenged while their conditions only get worse with time. Meanwhile opportunities just go unnoticed, unexplored and with time can be lost or become more difficult to envisage.
The time taken to research the proposed agreement can improve any bargaining position and the prospect to negotiate better terms that will also improve your position for the future. The biggest challenge is when the whole industry adopts the same bad practices to depict a deteriorating situation as no other option is evident or easily attainable. Investigating the dynamics involved will uncover the potential consequences of accepting the status quo, conforming and taking no corrective action.
This applies to so many areas, from employment contracts, purchases, properties, partnerships, to the facilities that you use.
So how do you recognise your opportunities to negotiate and improve your bargaining position?
For many it starts by recognising the challenge, a dilemma or specific issue to fuel the drive that can break the cycle of poor decisions or many mistakes with the steps that can set a positive direction:

  • Review the current arrangement or proposition that might not be favourable, to set a goal that can achieve something better with a vision of how things could be.
  • Consider what skills you might need to develop further or include in your team to succeed.
  • Uncover the dynamics and the barriers.
  • Create a position to leverage your advantages.
  • Set the ground work to enable opportunities.
  • Develop new driving forces and opportunities.
  • Build trust and a vision that all parties can support.
  • Secure the deal and its execution.

Evolve by enabling your potential

Potential

Beyond thinking, past the threshold to appreciate strategies comes the opportunity to evolve in leaps and bounds.

We do not evolve at the end of a process that may be linked to an incremental improvement. Evolvement is a state of enlightenment which reflects a higher maturity and capabilities to realise a new potential, confirmed with the appropriate results. Continuous improvement that links real time learning with immediate adjustments may secure some progress. That progress can be limited by our own imaginations to solve the bigger systemic issues and the ability to adopt and adjust to better models.
The latest technologies, intelligence, system thinking and governance practices may provide a sense of being enabled. But, if we cannot translate that potential to useful results, the prospect to evolve might be significantly limited, if not put under some risk, e.g. tackling challenges beyond our capabilities.
Mentorship, board of advisors, think groups can lift our outlook and the opportunity to evolve further. The issues behind why poor strategies are still conceived or why good strategies continue to fail is that the opportunity to evolve is not incorporated into the iterative process, to conceive and manage better plans or transformational best practices. Better decisions, visions, capabilities, drive and innovations are enabled when the structural shackles are removed, e.g. Competence development and Dynamic environments are enabled as noted when Non-profit organisations focus on better systems, free from the unnecessary conflicts of interest.
Thus, to raise your potential these key elements are needed on an iterative basis:

Competence development for future challenges

Competence

We never stop learning, but we need to develop and exercise our skills and drive to manage our challenges and seize the window of opportunity.

In an age of convenience, education still defines a potential and capability that needs to evolve considerably. Competence development without the insights to address future challenges leaves many organisations vulnerable to certain demise as international competition becomes as growing challenge.
Those with the insights to the foreseeable future need to contribute to upgrading the education system and organisations competence development to challenge ourselves for what is to come. The issue remains that most courses have become complacent with their own standards, promoting packages that just teach the basics. Without adequate feedback from sponsors or industries to raise these standards we face an uncertain future.
The old stereotypes can be dismissed as they no longer apply since each job or position will have added demands as the work force shrinks, regulations get tighter, and expectations are raised. A new culture is needed to accommodate the aging work force that can appreciate their attributes and skills. Each person might need to aspire to become a cross between a technical guru, innovative strategist, entrepreneur, international diplomat, trouble shooter, security conscious, and humanitarian extraordinaire to address any challenge.
Future challenges will require the following competence development:
